Sr. Paralegal - Employment Law in Phoenix, AZ at PetSmart
As a Senior Paralegal, you will partner with Senior Legal Counsel to provide day-to-day support to the PetSmart Human Resources team. You should have a broad working knowledge and experience base in employment law, including a strong familiarity with wage and hour laws at both the federal and state level. You may also work directly (and with counsel) to resolve disputes and matters with governmental agencies such as the Department of Labor and similar state agencies, and assist in responding to wage and hour audits initiated by federal or state authorities. Experience gathering data, investigating and working with outside counsel on litigation matters is also important. You will also partner with Human Resource professionals to address and resolve employee relations matters at our retail stores and corporate office. This will require a proven track record of being able to manage multiple requests for assistance and projects, with demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communication, and a strong understanding the importance of data integrity and confidentiality. This position requires high performance under pressure, and an ability to relay and receive information from lawyers and non-lawyers.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Paralegal certificate or equivalent experience; a Bachelor Degree; and a minimum of 5 years experience as a paralegal or legal assistant at a law firm preferred, with significant corporate experience related to the essential duties above; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
TECHNICAL SKILLS
•Advanced understanding of various employment, discrimination, and wage and hour laws.
•Strong proficiency in Excel, Microsoft Word.
•Solid proficiency with computer based systems.
•Ability to assist in developing and implementing training to business clients.
•Ability to conduct legal research.
•Ability to manage multiple matters simultaneously.
•Strong attention to detail and appreciation for data integrity.
•Ability to read, analyze and interpret, personnel data, company policies and procedures, professional journals, technical procedures, legal documents, governmental regulations and case law.
•Ability to conduct investigations, gather data, and write position statements and other correspondence in defense of Company positions.
•Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential. In addition, the ability to effectively speak and present to business partners is required.
•Strong project management leadership skills with the ability to assist in implementing execution strategies and methodologies appropriate for a retail services environment is preferred.
•Ability to interface successfully with all levels of management within PetSmart and with outside legal professionals.
